Sonic The Hedgehog Celebrates 25th Anniversary With Two New Titles Announced


To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of one of the most iconic blue hedgehogs of our time SEGA have announced two new Sonic games, at its Comic Con event in San Diego. The first game announced will reimagine iconic levels from Sonic’s past, and the second will feature classic and modern versions of Sonic in a brand new adventure against his arch nemesis Dr Eggman.

Sonic Mania will be a 2D platform game, which will feature visuals and gameplay similar to that of the classic SEGA Genesis games. It will revamp zones and acts from Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2 and 3 as well as Sonic and Knuckles.
The game new Sonic Mania is developed by Sega of America and PagodaWest Games. According to Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka we will learn more about the new Sonic Mania game later this year.
"Sonic Mania was born out of our fans' love of the classic Sonic 2D platform games,” said Iizuka. "This type of collaboration is a first for Sega and we hope everyone will be both surprised and delighted by this title. Sonic Mania has been a passion project for the entire team and we look forward to sharing more details about it later this year. Having the game actually playable at the event itself tonight was testament to the dedication of the team behind it.”
Sonic Mania will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC in autumn 2017 and you can check out the trailer below.


The second announcement at Comic Con by SEGA was that a brand new Sonic adventure developed by the Sonic Team that will be released sometime in 2017. The new game will feature both classic and modern versions of Sonic, similar to 2011's Sonic Generations.. At this stage the new title has only been revealed as Project Sonic and doesn't have an official title, but will be available on PS4, Xbox One, and the new console Nintendo NX. In addition to these two announcements, Sega revealed that the mobile device game Sonic Dash,  has passed 200 million downloads worldwide  and will receive a special in-game event that adds the Green Hill Zone and Classic Sonic as a playable character. This event will only last a week, but players can unlock both the classic level and character for use after the event. Sonic Dash is currently available on iOS, Android, Amazon, and Windows Phone devices.
