Retro Consoles | Sega and Atari

We've heard all about the Mini SNES coming soon, but that's not where this madness ends. Along with Nintendo's retro console, AtGames are releasing a retro Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) and also the Atari 2600. While the idea of these retro re-releases is sound, the reality is quite painful. I have fond memories of playing on all of these consoles as a kid, however time has played its role in kicking the living crap out of our beloved games of old. Nostalgia is a wonderful thing and can often help companies make money from making us remember the good old days.
The sad reality of this all is that these consoles are never going to be what we remember them to be. The build quality of them is questionable and the way the games play are going to be absolutely atrocious compared to anything we have on the shelves today. Often when I take a walk down memory lane and plug in one of my old consoles that I never got rid of, I quickly pack it all back up and pretend that it never happened.
Retro games that stand the test of time are rare. Having money in my bank account is even rarer. I believe these retro consoles are amazing and serve extremely well for a collectors item and look sweet on a shelf, but as for setting one up and having a play. I'll head over to my current generation of equipment and enjoy the progress that has been made in the gaming world.
