Halo 5: Guardians an Xbox One must buy!

So let's all face it. Xbox One has a damn good line up coming up including the very hotly anticipated Rise of the Tomb Raider and of course Halo 5: Guardians.

We were lucky enough to get our hands on a copy of Halo 5 for a play through before release and I thought that I would give a little insight into what makes this game a must buy for all Xbox One players.

Now I will not be giving away any spoilers and will focus mainly on gameplay and graphics.

Everyone was super pumped with details of Halo 5 being in development. To whet our appetites, 343 further announced the Master Chief Collection, and fanboys across the globe rejoiced. This was however until 343 managed to blunder the whole thing with what can only be described as a very poor launch. No multiplayer was on the disc and gamers found themselves hit with a whopping 40gb day one download that was necessary to unlock the online content.

Now on to the size. Halo 5 will require around 55gb of storage on your Xbox One. It will also require a day one multiplayer update of 9gb so best to get it in and downloading straight away.

The graphics are said to be hitting 1080p and 60fps but this is not for the whole game. Although it looks phenomenal, to hit a constant 60fps the resolution does take a hit and will drop from 1080p in more full on sections of the game. So much is usually going on in these parts that you will need a robotic eye to notice but it does happen.

I'm not going to go into any great depth here in talking about the story. As you are aware Master Chief and his team has gone AWOL and Locke and his team are sent to find them. They have all sorts of fun adventures along the way and everyone lives happily ever after. Or do they...

As far as first person shooters go, the stories are usually quite lacking in depth and fun. Halo is one franchise that I see as always making their campaigns come first. Although the multiplayer is fun it really is not what we are buying this for. The campaign got me so engrossed that I found it very hard to put down as it urged me to continue playing as I really wanted to know the final outcome.

Having both Master Chief and Locke as part of a team is a brilliant new addition to the franchise. This opens the campaign up to an awesome co-op adventure. The team comes in really handy as they can revive a downed soldier and you can also order them in the direction you wish them to go or target an enemy who is being particularly annoying.

The gun play in Halo has always been very strong. It makes the player feel that they really need to be good at it to progress. Ammo and guns can be very limited and without any quick scope or enemy lock your really need to aim at your enemies and not just in their vicinity to be able to kill them. Not many FPS titles do this and it adds that little bit extra of a challenge.

The graphics in Halo 5 are absolutely amazing. On first entering the universe I found myself in awe of the massive scope of the levels. The draw distance is huge and needs to be to fully capture what is going on in the story. Now for my favorite bit with the graphics. Halo 5 has the best water in any game I have seen in this generation. The water reflects its surroundings and also ripples as you walk through it. I know a couple of other games have done this, but none have done it as good as Halo 5.

Having finished the campaign and dabbled in the multiplayer I must say that Halo 5 is a must buy for any Xbox One owner. The story is where this game shines and although some parts may seem a little repetitive or stale the epicness of the rest makes you completely forget about it.

Halo 5 is a title that doesn't need to be sold through reviews or advertising. The franchise has always been amazing and I can't wait to see what they have in store for us with concluding the trilogy in Halo 6.
