Enigmatis: The Ghosts of Maple Creek PS4 Review

It is very rare for me to be completely lost in a game. The Witcher 3 did it, Firewatch did it, and now Enigmatis: The Ghosts of Maple Creek has done it.

Enigmatis: The Ghosts of Maple Creek, is a puzzle adventure game originally released on PC back in 2011. The first game in a trilogy it has now made it's way to the PS4 and Xbox One consoles.

The name itself Enigmatis, Batman fans should pick this up straight away, Gives us a bit of insight into what we are in for when starting on our journey. Enigmatis is Latin, an inflection of Enigma which basically means riddle or dark saying.

You wake up alone in a town that has just been ravaged by a severe storm with some short term memory loss. You know you're there for a reason you just have to remember why. It is up to you to search the area, jogging your memory, until it all starts to fall into place. You're a detective out to find a young woman who has gone missing after a hiking weekend away with her boyfriend. You must find objects that go together to help you in your journey, clues within different parts of the town and from those clues you must deduce where, why and how, all in an attempt to find this missing woman.

Maple Creek does a wonderful job of pulling you into the story. The underlying mystery is enhanced with supernatural / demonic overtones and the town and surrounds itself give you an uneasy feeling. Music and sounds only further enhance the feeling that you're alone sending chills with perfectly executed timing.

Gameplay wise there isn't a whole lot to speak about. Basically we have a point and click adventure game with hidden object puzzles. The story and the atmosphere are what keep you hooked here.

Enigmatis: The Ghosts of Maple Creek is only relatively short, how long exactly I couldn't tell you as I played it over the course of one night and didn't want to put it down. It wasn't till after I finished that I realised it was the first of a trilogy which has me keen to get stuck into the other two.

Will you dare to solve and age old mystery of Maple Creek? Will you find the missing woman? Will you be able to save yourself from the ancient evil lurking around every corner? Only time will tell.

Enigmatis: The Ghosts of Maple Creek has just been released on PS4 and you can pick it up for around the $15.00AUS mark. Well worth the time and for those trophy hunters, a nice and easy platinum.
