All Your Game Are Belong To Us- The Releases We Know About

All Your Game Are Belong To Us
(The Releases We Know About)

E3 has come and gone and with it we were treated to some awesome new games we can expect in the next 12 months. So let’s take a moment to reflect on all those games we know are coming to our gamer palms any time now, because there are some great ones!

Make sure you check back here for updates!

Tekken 7

At the time of writing Tekken 7 has just been released (June 2nd) and is ready to take the world by storm. Fast paced action and some of our favourite heroes and villains returning to the fight in new, polished graphics is hardly something you can ignore. Available on PS4, Xbox One and PC, Bandai Namco sure isn’t dropping the ball here! For a great in depth review by Snoogans, check it out here!

Arms

June 16th sees Arms coming for the Switch. A fighting game with stretchy arms and massive fists…who could resist! In a 3D arena you can pit yourself against your friends using the Joy-Con Controllers and punch, dodge and block your way to victory. So get ready to curve those stretch arms across the obstacle filled stage or trigger a rapid fire attack on your opponent! Laughs are sure to ensue!

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy

Releasing as a PS4 exclusive, this re-release of a PS1 classic is bound to have plenty of nostalgia attached. Overhauled in 4K high-definition, the N. Sane Trilogy compiles the original trilogy of Crash’s adventures with all the same precision jumping, fruit collecting and enemy bouncing fun it always had while bringing new textures, art, and animation. Checkpoints and save systems have been unified to be more consistent in all three games but it appears that is the extent of the changes. All up it is sounding pretty positive! Watch out for this release on June 30th!

Splatoon 2

After the raving success of its predecessor, Splatoon 2 is coming to the Switch on July 21st. This 4v4 colour splash warfare sees you playing as an “Inkling” in a battle to colour the arena in your own colour before your friends can succeed themselves. Splatoon 2 promises new stages, new weapons including a twin-pistol Splat Dualies and fan favourites like the Splat Roller. Splatoon 2 also offers local multiplayer thanks to the Switch’s system link as well as its original online multiplayer. The controller’s gyroscope aiming allows for more precision aim and the Dodge Roll manoeuvre allows for greater turf tagging potential. If you don’t already have a Switch, this might be the game to sell you on it.

Pyre

From Supergiant Games, developers of Bastion and Transistor, comes the new game Pyre. Pyre is a rich narrative experience about three exiles banding together on a mystical pilgrimage, but plays more like a sports game. Set for release on PS4 and PC this is a game described as “a game of 3v3 basketball”, a battle game where each player on the squad has a different size and speed, and only one player can move at a time. The aim is to get the Rukey orb into the opposing team’s flame much like a game of NBA, slam-dunks and all.  Pyre releases on July 25th.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice

Developer of games like Heavenly Sword, Enslaved and DMC, Ninja Theory is at it again with another thrilling release. Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is the story of a Celtic warrior Suena dealing with intense psychological trauma who battles her inner demons in a very real way. The game is steeped in Norse mythology and the gameplay is very lifelike with melee at the forefront. Personally this one is sounding amazing to me. Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is set to release on PS4 and PC on August 8th.

Mega Man Legacy Collection 2

At an approximate release date of August 8th, Capcom will be releasing the second Legacy Collection of Mega Man which includes Mega Man 7-10, a Challenge Mode, online leaderboards and a music player that lets gamers listen to the tracks from each of the games. There are also extra features such as an archive of sketches, development materials, production art and concepts. Free add on content will be included as well, such as the ability to play as Proto Man in Mega Man 9, and battle against the Mega Man Killers in Mega Man 10. At this time there are no plans for a Nintendo release but if it follows the lead of the first collection there might be a 3DS release further down the track. Development is assured, however, for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Sonic Mania

A name synonymous with Sega, the Sonic franchise is sure had its share of ups and downs. Some instalments have been breathtakingly good, while others have left a bit to be desired. So which side of the fence will Sonic Mania sit on? The all new Sonic sees the blue hedgehog up against Dr Robotnik with spritework that evokes Sonic CD with the perfect amount of polish. While the gameplay mechanics are familiar in the best of ways, the levels are new and fresh, presenting new deigns and unique obstacles that mix things up nicely. Sonic Mania allows you to play not only as Sonic but also as Tails or Knuckles. And this instalment is on every major platform- gamers rejoice! Sonic Mania comes to PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC on August 15th.

Agents of Mayhem

Also hitting shelves on August 15th is Volition’s newest game, Agents of Mayhem. When you know that these are the people who brought us Saints Row, you know you’re in for some over the top ridiculous fun! Playable on PS4, Xbox and PC, this new superhero game proffers up 12 larger than life characters which players can seamlessly switch between. You can even pick three at a time and enjoy a new set of superpowers and weapons which means endless combinations for absolute Mayhem!

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

Here at Aussie Gamers we have our fair share of Uncharted fans. So this newest release will be getting some avid attention when it comes to PS4 on August 22nd. The Lost Legacy isn’t a new Uncharted game, nor is it an expansion. This release lets you play as Chloe who teams up with A Thief’s End’s Nadine Ross to track down an ancient Indian artefact. It feels a little Lara Croft-esque to me which is never a bad thing. The Lost Legacy will bring more love to fans of the series but is a stand-alone game, which means if you’ve never played the Drake storyline (shock and horror) you won’t be at a loss here.

Yakuza Kiwami

The Yakuza games have been an open door to the Japanese nightlife and criminal underbelly experience for some time now. But if you haven’t had the joy of playing any of the games yet you will be happy to know that Yakuza Kiwami is a perfect introduction and a spruced up remake of the original PS2 game that first introduced us to Kazuma Kirya and his gang. New graphics provide a massive improvement and the neo-noir storyline has had a clean up too with some loose ends gaining resolution via new content. You can also switch up Kiryu’s fighting styles which is a nod to Yakuza 0. The original Sega games developed a very devoted cult following- when Yakuza Kiwami comes to PS4 on August 29th you can find out why.

Absolver

Touted as being the perfect combination of Dark Souls + Destiny + Kung Fu, Absolver is heading to PS4 and PC on August 29th. Think armour clad fighters battling each other in hand to hand combat and you’re on the right track. Set in the scenic ruins of the Adal Empire you will be faced with ever increasing stake of stamina-based offense, while exploration is broken up by intermittent PVP events, and you risk losing XP if you die. Stakes are certainly high here, but Absolver also allows for coop play with player controller characters in Destiny strike style through dungeons while battling your way to completion.

Destiny 2

If you haven’t heard of this one yet your rock must be pretty big. Destiny 2 is the large scale MMO RPG style follow up to the original which spanned a pretty respectable 3 years and was playable on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Destiny 2 is continuing the story laid before it and utilises the same character architypes as its predecessor, but that is mostly where the similarities end. While aiming to feel somewhat familiar, Destiny 2 will be a new game entirely. The Tower that was once the home of the Guardians and the Vanguards before them is now under threat from the cabal Red Legion, a brutal and hard hitting foe that has had it out for you for some time now. You’ve interfered before and they don’t like you, but what they really want is your source of power and light- the Traveller- to themselves. In the process you are forcibly removed from your now destroyed Tower, you have lost your home, your weapon, your powers, everything and the Vanguard have split up to find refuge around the solar system. It’s up to you, the Guardians, to restore the Vanguard and reclaim your home and the Traveller from the Red Legion. Pretty clearly the story of Destiny 2 is more fleshed out in cinematic display than the first game, and the lore that once was only achieved through obtaining Grimoire cards will be more upfront for players to enjoy on screen. Destiny 2 will be available on September 8th and is to be released on PS4, Xbox One and now PC.

Divinity: Original Sin 2

If you have played the first Divinity: Original Sin then you’ll be at no loss to appreciate the isometric deep, story driven RPG of this massive scale fantasy world supporting two player coop throughout. Divinity: Original Sin 2 is building on the strong foundation it laid and is upping the ante to include four player team ups with consequence style play on both narrative and combat. If role-playing RPGs built solidly on your character’s race, class, demeanour and actions is your bag then Divinity: Original Sin 2 is one you shouldn’t miss! Watch for it on PS4, Xbox One and PC on September 14th.

Metroid: Samus Returns

Not to be left out of the releases list, 3DS can expect a new addition from Nintendo with another officially licensed 2D Metroid adventure! Metroid: Samus Returns is a new take on Game Boy sequel Metroid 2, developed in partnership with MercurySteam (Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate)) and produced by Yoshio Sakamoto (Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission). With 2.5D visuals, Samus Returns also brings 360 degree aiming and melee counter which provides a rather helpful backup if things get a bit hairy. Metroid: Samus Returns releases on September 15th 2017.

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider

Building on the success of the recent sequel in the series, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is a standalone DLC is due to release September 15th 2017. Featuring Daud (the main character from the first game’s DLCs, Knife of Dunwall and Brigmore Witches), this DLC stars Billie Lurk (voiced by Rosario Dawson), Daud’s second-in-command turned ally. These two veteran assassins are on the hunt for the Outsider, a seeming omnipotent who gave Emily and Corvo their supernatural abilities. This is not a battle for the faint of heart. Dishonored: Death of the Outsider releases on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Who doesn’t love the hype the surrounds a great fighter game? Button mashing goodness or precision combo construction alike there is a lot here to love. There is always the promise of flashy combos, great one liners, and gamer rage. The fourth entry in the Marvel vs. Capcom series is on the way with a load of mechanic changes to familiar tag-team brawls between the Marvel and Capcom heroes and villains. Three fighter teams have been brought back to 2v2 like the original MvC, assists have been entirely removed and replaced with character swaps mid-combo and unique buffs granted by the Infinity Gems. Marvel vs. Capcom hits PS4, Xbox One and PC on September 19th.

Pokken Tournament DX

While possibly not the Pokemon release for the Switch that many had hoped for, Pokken Tournament DX is the Pokemon debut for the new Nintendo system. Originally released to the Wii-U, Pokken Tournament was a 3D fighter featuring one on one bouts with a selection of playable Pokemon and shared many of the same developers as the Tekken series. With great hopes that this entry’s release on the Switch will reach a larger audience, DX brings an additional five Pokemon fighters raising the number of playable fighters to 21 and includes Scizor and Croagunk. Pokken Tournament DX will be released on September 22nd.

Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony

Vita joins PS4 and PC in welcoming the newest Danganronpa entry in all its high energy glory. Monokuma is up to old tricks again, pitting top students against one another in kill or be killed scenarios. Danganronpa V3 continues all the murderous teenage drama and detective work of the popular visual novel series, introduces a new cast of characters and more Class Trials to meet your need for accusation-hurling cross-examinaton. The familiar debate structure is broken up by new mechanics that will test your skills of deduction. Minigames have been freshened up too and provide a slightly less stressful challenge to your reasoning. Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony releases on September 26th.

Cuphead

With a lengthy wait preceeding it, Cuphead was announced for release on September 29th 2017 at this year’s E3. This Indie title is a breath of fresh air with large scale bosses in a 1930s animation style. The run and gun shooter combines 2D Mega Man-esque intensity gameplay with a charming and childlike visual palate, but a challenging completion at its core. Such a unique game is surely work looking forward to. Cuphead comes to Xbox One and PC.

Forza Motorsport 7

One of the strongest racing simulators and the flagship of Xbox, the Forza series is not to be trifled with. Promising all the grandeur and skill of its predecessors with more challenge and beauty involved, it’s a title not to be missed. Having announced a partnership with Porsche, FM7 will bring plenty of high-end motorsport racing in HDR lighting at the ever impressive 60fps/4K. Forza Motorsport 7 comes to Xbox One and PC on October 3rd 2017.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War

Talion and his fused wraith Celebrimbor return in the much anticipated sequel to Shadow of Mordor. Having forged a new Ring of Power, with rather questionable life choices, Talion must once again fight his way through the opposing orc armies. The brilliant Nemesis system returns, where orc enemies can become more powerful and more bitter rivals over time, and new Nemesis Fortresses serve as the villains imposing domains. Your own brawny army is by your side to take them down one at a time and eventually be able to take on the big guy himself, Sauron. This well-deserved sequel is set for release on October 10th and will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The Evil Within 2

Whether you loved or hated The Evil Within, it’s hard to deny that the game presented some clever reality warping ideas and tried hard to present the inner mind of a killer. The Evil Within 2 is following those footsteps as it follows Detective Sebastian Castellanos journey back into the STEM system to search for his daughter who is thought to be dead. Will this sequel bring justice to Shinki Mikami’s style of terror? The Evil Within 2 releases October 13th for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole

October 17th 2017 is the date slated for the new South Park game. And what a wait it has been! Delays have been many but Trey Parker and Matt Stone always seem to deliver the crude and politically incorrect humour in all its glory. With commentary always resounding on current events and politics it’s little surprise this game will be centred on Hollywood’s obsession with superheroes and super-teams. As the gang of 8 year olds embody their own superhero style in full RPG style, war between the two allegiances ensues. South Park: The Fractured But Whole will have 12 classes to choose from and as the new kid on the block you will get to choose a gender and which side you wish to fight for. Get ready for a load of farting goodness on your PS4, Xbox One or PC.

Super Mario Odyssey

Switch has been awaiting a robust and promising instalment of the Nintendo’s main man. Expected though it be, the red dressed plumber has been given a slight makeover including a brand new flying hat, Cappy. With colourful and diverse landscapes to explore, Mario and Cappy can venture together, possessing any NPC in the world around them with a simple toss and fly. Coop play makes this an interesting break from tradition. Super Mario Odyssey comes to the Switch on October 27th 2017.

Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus

He’s a charmer, a comedian and an all-around badass, especially when it comes to the Nazis. B.J. Blazkowicz is back after yet another coma (he’s really gotta sort this out) for another round of skull crushing, gun blazing glory. Following an alternate history from The New Order, you’ll be taking back America from the established Nazi regime using every method available. On October 27th 2017, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus comes to PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Assassin’s Creed Origins

While not everyone can agree on which game was the best nor the worst, not many people would disagree that the Assassin’s Creed series had started to become a bit sameish. After a long hiatus, the popular Ubisoft title is back and with many changes. Taking the story back to the creation of the Assassin’s Brotherhood, Assassin’s Creed Origins is said to be a new game from the ground up. Moving to an RPG style gameplay they have dropped a majority of the usual AC elements, but there is no compromise on the stunning world that remains your playground. And this time the horses (and even camels) are back, only now they’re saddled for battle! Assassin’s Creed Origins releases October 27th 2017 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Fire Emblem Warriors

Taking a more relaxed approach then other games in the series, Fire Emblem Warriors is a hack and slash style game with your FE hero at the forefront. Slice and dice your way through armies of puny foes and claim your victory! Fire Emblem Warriors comes to the Switch in (US) Fall 2017.

Call of Duty: WW2

Could this be the COD series reply to Battlefield 1? Stepping away from the futuristic games of the COD series, WW2 will be taking us back to some pretty amazing looking trench warfare putting you in the laced-up boots of two soldiers from the 1st  Infantry Division, known as “The Bloody First”, who led the invasion of Normandy on D-Day. There is plenty of gore and blood shed to be had in this dramatic homage to the brutalities of war. Airstrikes, tank battalions and Nazi scalping are shown first person for full effect. Multiplayer will also be available in the “War” story mode beside the usual single-player campaign and competitive PvP we would expect from the COD franchise. Expect to see WW2 on PS4, Xbox One and PC on November 3rd, 2017.

Star Wars Battlefront 2

At the release of Battlefront 1 there were some pretty big hopes pinned on the game being the ultimate in Star Wars warfare. Mixed reviews were the result and it was obvious that a lot of issues needed to be resolved in order to move forward. In one of the largest dedicated segments of E3 2017 a lot of gamer concerns were allayed. Star Wars Battlefront 2 would address issues on dlc costs, story content and its connection to the saga, as well as playable characters. As well as expansive multiplayer conflicts, featuring heroes pulled from all three film eras- a full-on single player campaign is played from the perspective of Empire elite soldier Iden Versio. Space battles make a triumphant return including some pretty neat turns at the helm of an X-Wing or TIE Fighter. DLC was listed to be free for players which received some pretty huge praise from those lucky enough to attend E3’s conference. Star Wars Battlefront 2 comes to PS4, Xbox One and PC on November 17th 2017.
